Taxpayer Donates to SGO
Starting January 1st 2027, any Taxpayer can donate to an eligible Scholarship Granting Organization (SGO) and claim a dollar-for-dollar credit up to $1,700 on their tax return filed the following year. That's up to $3,400 for a Couple filing a joint tax return.
Companies also are eligible to receive the dollar-for-dollar tax credit for donating to an SGO.
Qualify to Receive funds from an SGO
If a student's household earns less than 300% of the Median Area Income (and some other fine print), they are eligible to receive scholarship funds from an SGO.
How the SGO Decides which Student's Tuition to Pay
This is a very nuanced part and more information is coming soon.
- A SGO donor can NOT specify which student scholarship should be paid with their donation.
- The SGO does NOT have to pay every eligible student scholarship equally, however there must be a uniform and consistent method of how the money is divided between eligible students scholarship.
